چکیده

Retinoscopy could be a more effective and versatile clinical tool in observing a wide range of ocular conditions if modifications were made to overcome the inherent difficulties. In this paper, a laboratory infrared retinoscope prototype was constructed to capture the digital images of the pupil reflex of various types of eye conditions. The captured low-contrast reflex images due to intraocular scattering were significantly improved with a simple image processing procedure for visualization. Detections of ocular aberrations were demonstrated, and computational models using patients’ wavefront data were built to simulate the measurement for comparison. The simulation results suggest that the retinal stray light that is strongly linked to intraocular scattering extend the detection range of illuminating eccentricity in retinoscopy and make it more likely to observe ocular aberrations.

Comparison of Mem Retinoscopy & Nott Retinoscopy & Their Interexaminer Repeatabilities

The results of previous studies comparing Monocular Estimate Method (MEM) retinoscopy and Nott retinoscopy (Nott) have not been consistent. The purposes of this study were to compare MEM and Nott measures of accommodative response with each other and to provide data on the interexaminer reliability of MEM and Nott. Two examiners performed both MEM and Nott retinoscopy on 50 young adult subjects...

Raptors lack lower-field myopia

The presence of lower-field myopia (described in chickens, pigeons, quail and amphibians) allows these animals to keep the ground in focus while performing other visual tasks. A relationship has also been reported between the eye height and the degree of myopia observed. All of the animals reported in the literature to date are ground-foraging species. Using infrared neutralizing video retinosc...

Real-Time Objective Measurement of Accommodation While Reading

Purpose: In the clinical care of functional vision disorders, dynamic retinoscopy such as Monocular Estimate Method has been the mainstay for objective measurement of the accommodative response. It is valuable, fast and widely available. Dynamic retinoscopy however does not allow for quantified measures of accommodation by inexperienced clinicians or technicians. Automated, objective methods fo...

Non-cycloplegic spherical equivalent refraction in adults: comparison of the double-pass system, retinoscopy, subjective refraction and a table-mounted autorefractor.

AIM To evaluate the accuracy of spherical equivalent (SE) estimates of a double-pass system and to compare it with retinoscopy, subjective refraction and a table-mounted autorefractor. METHODS Non-cycloplegic refraction was performed on 125 eyes of 65 healthy adults (age 23.5±3.0 years) from October 2010 to January 2011 using retinoscopy, subjective refraction, autorefraction (Auto kerato-ref...
